Oncology Department<\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Matralis Dimitrios<\/span>Veterinary DVM, PhD, ESAVS IM-Oncology<\/span><\/div><\/div>
Dimitris is a graduate and doctor of the Veterinary School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has gained work experience in large veterinary clinics in Attica. His scientific interest is focused on the clinical oncology of companion animals. In recent years he participated in the clinical oncology specialization program of the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS, CertVP IM-Oncology). He has retrained in the oncology clinic of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Virginia \u2013 Maryland, College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of ESVONC (European Society of Veterinary Oncology) and VCM (Veterinary Cancer Society). His works have been published in Greek and foreign magazines and he has participated as a speaker in many conferences.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Dervisis Nikos<\/span>DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Oncology)<\/span><\/div><\/div>
Nikos Dervisis graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1998. After his military service, he moved to the University of Illinois for a master’s degree, and in 2003 to Michigan State University for a doctorate and specialization in Clinical Oncology. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2007, and received his PhD in Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology in 2009.
\nFrom 2009 to 2012 he was an assistant professor of Oncology at Michigan State University. In 2012 he moved to Virginia Tech to establish the Oncology Clinic at the Va-Md College of Veterinary Medicine, and in 2018 he was promoted to Associate Professor of Oncology.
\nHe is a key executive for the strategic planning and research activity of the new Animal Cancer Care & Research Center (ACCRC) in collaboration with VirginiaTech’s medical school. His research interest is in One Health \/ Translational Medicine and he is a member of various phase-0 \/ phase-1 clinical trials, with an emphasis on immuno-oncology of minimally invasive cancer treatments.
\nHe serves as a member or president of various VirginiaTech committees, as well as the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the Veterinary Cancer Society.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Chiara Leo<\/span>DVM, MSc, FHEA, Dipl. ACVIM Oncology<\/span><\/div><\/div>
I spent my university study time convinced to become an equine person: it did not really go that way, as, after a cytology course, I thought that cells were awesome and from cells to oncology the step was short. A training path was just not possible in Italy at that time, so I embarked myself in a change of life, also geographically speaking: I completed an oncology internship at the Tierspital University of Zurich (Switzerland) and an ACVIM residency in Oncology at the Animal Oncology and Imaging Center in Zug (Switzerland), that included externships at the Washington State University (US). From 2011 to 2016 I have been Lecturer in Oncology at the Royal Veterinary College (London, UK) and pointed \u201cad interim\u201d Head of the Oncology service from 2015 to 2016 but, more importantly, I have become the proud owner of Arturo, a gentleman dog rescued from a London kennel, who has been with me ever since.
\nSwitzerland, America, England: after almost 10 years abroad, the call of the homeland and of my beloved Alps was strong, so in 2016 I moved back to Italy, where I have become head of the Oncology service at the Anicura Istituto Veterinario Novara and scientific director of UNISVET, one of the biggest Italian continuing education society All these learning experiences have taught me the most important lesson: been part of a good team is always the best way to achieve success or to rise back from failures. <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Gerdidani Evi<\/span>Veterinary DVM<\/span><\/div><\/div>
Evi is a graduate of Lyc\u00e9e Franco-Hell\u00e9nique Eug\u00e8ne Delacroix. She finished her studies at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2015.
\nSince then, he has been working as a veterinarian at vets4life with an interest in companion animal pathology and mainly oncology. The last years she participates in the clinical oncology specialization program of the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS, CertVP IM-Oncology.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
